The Papanasam Beach, also known as Varkala Beach, is one of the best beaches in Kerala because of the view it offers from the cliff top. Like its name suggests, its water has medicinal properties and is believed to wash off one’s impurities and sins. The Samadhi situated within the premises of the beach is the resting place of the great philosopher, Sree Narayana Guru and attracts many devotees. The Kappil Beach, a little away from Varkala, is a beach-backwater destination. The road splitting the two waterbodies [west is the majestic Arabian sea and to the east is the calm and serene backwaters]; the backwater and the Arabian Sea, is a treat to the eye.
